How to enter QUEBRANTAHUESOS
QUEBRANTAHUESOS consists of two different routes, which take place at the same time:
- Quebrantahuesos Gran Fondo (200 km)
- Treparriscos Medio Fondo (85 km)
Since that both cyclosportive routes pass through highly valuable natural environments and for the participants’ safety the number of cyclists is limited. For this reason and given the high demand of applications to enter both cyclosportives, it is mandatory to do a lottery. Each cyclosportive has its own individual lottery and only one application per person is allowed, having to choose between Quebrantahuesos Gran Fondo or Treparriscos Medio Fondo.
To participate in either cyclosportives it is mandatory to be in possession of a competitive or cyclosportive cycling license issued by a national federation assigned to the International Cycling Union (UCI), which insurance has coverage in Spain and France. Licenses from other sports (triathlon, mountaineering, etc.) are not admitted.
Those who do not have a cycling licence of these characteristics, must contract the one-day-insurance provided by the organisation (12€).
For Quebrantahuesos route, the participant certifies to have an effective medical certificate for the day of the cyclosportive. This certificate is required for number pickup.
Cyclists that have completed fifteen or more times the Quebrantahuesos Gran Fondo are automatically awarded a slot. They do not have to enter the lottery and will directly receive their registration code.
The application to enter the lottery can only be done by completing the form available in the official website.
Features of the lottery:
- Only one application per person is allowed.
- This application is only valid to enter the lottery of one cyclosportive, not for both.
- A 4€ fee (VAT included) per person is required in order to enter the lottery. If you are unlucky in the lottery, this amount is not refunded.
- To enter the lottery, you must enter the following details: name, surname, ID number and e-mail address (it’s essential that the e-mail address correct, it will be the only communication channel if you are awarded a slot).
- If the e-mail address and/or ID number are incorrect, the system will not allow you to complete the registration later, if you have been awarded a slot through the lottery.
In order to increase the chances of success, each application allows to add four other people. If one person from this group is awarded a slot by lottery, the remaining members of the group will also receive a slot.
This lottery also serves to award a direct slot to those who, having entered the lottery during three consecutive years (from the 2018 edition onwards – 2018, 2019 and 2020), have not been lucky in any of the TWO previous draws nor in this year´s draft.
The lottery process is very simple. There are two ballot boxes, one for each cyclosportive. In each ballot box there are as many ballots as applications. From each ballot box a number is randomly picked. This number and the subsequent are awarded slots for the corresponding cyclosportive, until its quota is completed.
The applicants awarded with a slot, receive via e-mail an access code to be able to register in the selected cyclosportive.
To formalise the registration it is compulsory to pay the registration fee through the secure payment gateway at the official website using credit card or debit card.
Entry fees Quebrantahuesos:
- With a valid cycling licence 75 € (VAT included)
- Those who do not have a valid cycling licence, must contract the one-day-insurance provided by the organisation (12€) = 87€ (VAT included)
Those who do not complete their registration in the established period, lose their slot.
- Registration includes the official cycling jersey, one bidon and all the services and activities that the organization offers.
If after the slots assignment and registration period, there are free slots, these will be passed over to other applicants following the lottery’s order and repeating the registration process.
Slot reallocation is repeated until all the entries are full.
Once the registration process has finished, the organisation proceeds to assign start numbers.
The start number assignment is done according to the best time obtained in any of the last three editions (2017, 2018 or 2019) of Quebrantahuesos Gran Fondo.

Obligatory medical certificate required to participate in the Quebrantahuesos
With the aim of improving the safety and health of participants, the Organization of Quebrantahuesos reminds participants that, as required by the French authorities, in order to participate in Quebrantahuesos you must have a valid medical certificate or a federal license that certifies that the holder has a medical certificate (for example, licenses issued by the Catalan Federation include this option). This preventive measure is applied to European long distance events (athletics, cycling, hiking etc.), it is included in the French Code du Sport as well as in the Federal Regulations under Law Nr. 99-223 on the health protection of athletes and it is compulsory.
We remind you that, in order to complete the registration it has been necessary to certify, during the online process, that the certificate is available on the day of the event. The Organization of Quebrantahuesos will request such documentation during the pick-up of race number. In the event that no such certificate is available, the Organization may reject the registration. Under no circumstances is there a profit-making objective with the implementation of this measure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Quebrantahuesos event has 50% of its route in France and, as a result, permits from the authorities of that country are required in order to carry out the event. Ensuring the good health of the participants and complying with the laws of the French authorities are the reasons why the Organization finds itself in the right to request a medical certificate this year.
Participants are obliged to provide a medical certificate indicating absence of contraindications to participate in long distance sports cycling event.
Each physician will determine the most suitable tests to perform an appropriate check-up, which, may be naturally different depending on the characteristics of each patient. But, as we say, it should be up to the discretion of the physician to determines the types of tests to perform.
The recommendation transmitted to us by professionals that have been questioned is that the following tests should be contemplated:
- Personal and family history
- Basic Cardio-Respiratory
- Basic Locomotor exploration
- Static Electrocardiogram (ECG) – Obligatory
The cost of a basic check-up varies between 30 and 50 euros, depending on the clinic or health center issuing the certificate. Each participant can choose what he/she considers to be the most appropriate Physician or health facility.
We need a medical certificate or stress test signed by a doctor between June 20, 2020 and June 19, 2021.
To register for the event via the online platform you must certify that you will have a medical certificate on the day of the event. Furthermore, you must give the photocopy of the medical certificate to pick-up your race number on the day before of the event.
Yes, but the medical examination has to be accompanied by a certificate stating the patient is fit to participate in a LONG DISTANCE event of these characteristics.
This measure is not obligatory in order to participate in medium distance event, the Treparriscos, as it does not go through French soil. However, the Organizers recommend that you undergo a medical examination or a stress test before any sporting event.
The medical certificate must be oriented to sports practice.
In other words, the medical certificate of your job indicates that you are ABLE to work and we need a medical certificate that indicates that you are ABLE to perform a sporting test of high physical demand such as the Quebrantahuesos Gran Fondo.
On the part of the Organization of Quebrantahuesos cyclotourist event we can assure that we are not motivated by any commercial or economic interests whatsoever in requesting this certificate.
It is enough for all those who have carried out a stress test with a result of being fit and able, as it’s much more complete than a simple medical examination. Only the medical certificate of the stress test is needed. We do not need all the values of the stress test as, among other things, they are private and personal data that are of no interest to the Organization.
Yes, as the certificate may be presented in other events.
The obligation is for all participants, independently of their respective nationalities.
The medical certificates should be issued in Spanish, English or French.
