The Marcha Cicloturista Ibercaja Quebrantahuesos by Total Energies 2024 was presented this Tuesday in the Sala Corona de Aragón of the Pignatelli Building in Zaragoza, with less than a week to go before more than 11,000 cyclists take part in the start in Sabiñánigo.
The presentation was attended by institutions such as the Government of Aragon, Sabiñánigo Town Council and Huesca Provincial Council. It also brought together representatives of the sponsors IberCaja and Total Energies, the state security forces and bodies, such as the Guardia Civil, Civil Protection and Traffic, and the organisers, Octagon Esedos and Club Ciclista Edelweiss.
After welcoming the attendees, Ms. Tomasa Hernández Martín, Regional Minister of Presidency, Interior and Culture of the Government of Aragon, was in charge of presenting the official video of this edition, which will once again cover the mythical mountain passes of the Pyrenees.
Afterwards, there was a joint table that brought together Quique Ascaso, Vice-president of the Edelweiss Cycling Club, to introduce the route and data of this edition, Xavier Bartrolí, President of Octagon Esedos, who presented the common project of territory, security, streaming, and how the Quebrantahuesos is an international reference, and Luis Marquina, President of the Aragonese Cycling Federation.
Xavier Bartolí wanted to emphasise “the economic impact of an event like the Quebrantahuesos for Sabiñánigo, for Aragon and for Spain in general, as the event moves around 40 or 50 thousand people between cyclists, public, volunteers and organisation. All the towns in Spain would like to have an event like this”.
For his part, Luis Marquina referred to “how proud the Aragonese Federation is that a race like the Quebrantahuesos is held in Aragon, as it helps us to promote cycling at the grassroots level in terms of licences”.
Quique Ascaso has highlighted that “we have achieved the objective of filling the participation. In addition, we have increased the number of volunteers, which has reached 1,000, with a special increase in the number of young volunteers”.
At the end, there was a question and answer session with the representatives of the sponsors, Belén Bardají from Ibercaja and Rocio Pontijas from Total Energies. “In Ibercaja we have supported the Bearded Vulture since it was a project, and we are proud to see how it has grown to become a reference”, explained Belén Bardají from Ibercaja. On the other hand, Rocío Pontijas from Total Energies highlighted “the values of effort and overcoming that the Quebrantahuesos represents, which we share and for which we support many more cycling and running races”.
The event continued with a second joint round table, bringing together Manuel Blasco, Minister of Environment and Tourism of the Government of Aragon, Berta Fernández, Mayoress of Sabiñánigo and Provincial Deputy, and José Cebollero, Provincial Deputy in the Provincial Council of Huesca.
Councillor Manuel Blasco stressed the importance of supporting events such as the Bearded Vulture, as they raise awareness of the province of Huesca, which was awarded the title of best adventure destination in Europe”. The mayoress Berta Fernández, for her part, explained that, “for Sabiñánigo, the Bearded Vulture is a social event in which all the local citizens get involved and participate with great enthusiasm, and that is something that even the participants value very much”.
Finally, the organisers have presented the streaming of this year’s edition, following the success of last year’s edition. The Quebrantahuesos can be followed from anywhere in the world for more than 7 hours, from 7 in the morning until around 15h, on its YouTube channel, in a streaming that will once again feature luxury names.
So, everything is ready for us to vibrate again this Saturday 22nd of June in the Ibercaja Quebrantahuesos by Total Energies.
We are waiting for you all in Sabiñánigo for an incredible edition!
